THE CHANEL ROUNDUP
Let’s talk Chanel Beauty. I own a somewhat small collection of their products, though I’m always looking to purchase more. Being the luxury brand that it is, Chanel could raise their prices even higher, full knowing that people would still buy it. It’s the high end appeal that draws us all in, but not every product of theirs lives up to its cost. It’s important to remember that luxury beauty is certainly not necessary by any means. You could probably get the same result with some drugstore products, if you choose wisely. What we’re ultimately buying is an experience, and maybe, hopefully a good product. That being said, I do really love 90% of my Chanel beauty products. My collection has grown slowly, but over time I’ve found myself reaching for the Chanel products on a daily basis, and a few have become staples in my routine.
Chanel Le Volume - This is the one mascara I will continue to buy time and time again. And thank god it’s Chanel, because I can safely assume it’s not going anywhere. My lashes are short and sparse, and this is the only that lengthens AND volumizes, which together, are magic. Every mascara out there has these promises too, but Chanel Le Volume actually comes through. Every time.
Illusion d’Ombre eyeshadow (Melody) - This is somewhat of a cream eyeshadow. I loved this when I first got it. It was subtle, shimmery, and just enough for a simple eye look. Barely even a month later, the whole pot began to dry out. I looked up solutions for this problem and found that so many people were experiencing the same thing. It’s not good when a Chanel cream eyeshadow dries out before a Maybelline one from three years ago is still good. I wanted to love it, but this is a hard pass.
Beauté des Cils - Still working my way through a sample of this mascara base. It’s lasted me a long time (as most Chanel samples do), and I will absolutely be purchasing once I finish it. It goes on the lashes clear/whiteish and then let it dry before putting mascara over top. I never would have thought a mascara base would be so essential to my routine, but this seriously is some magic Chanel formula that lengthens and curls the lashes even more than your mascara could possibly do alone. The results are truly beautiful and it makes all the difference.
Rouge Double Intensité - Ever Red - This is a bright, vibrant red if you couldn’t tell by the name, and let me tell you, this stuff does. not. budge. I’ve eaten soup wearing this lip midday, and it still looks great by the evening. Chanel actually carries a pretty decent variety of shades, and this is the perfect liquid lipstick + gloss duo. It’s also not drying at all, which many liquid lipsticks tend to be. My only beef with this product is that it can be a bit tricky to apply the lipstick part evenly, but its nothing too impossible!
Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Color (Gabrielle) - A classic red lip that will never go out of style! The lipstick itself is smooth, creamy, long lasting, and non drying. The $37 price tag is the only thing holding this perfect lipstick back and keeping me from buying every shade!
Poudre à Lèvres - One of those “Instagram made me do it” products. The lip stain is a powder, and there is a clear balm that goes underneath. This product can also be used on the face too, if you want to use it for a whole look. The color itself is gorgeous, and the wear time is decent. I like to top it off with a gloss and find that doing so does keep this lip in place a little longer!
Soleil Tan de Chanel - This is a creamy bronzing base that I absolutely swear by. It’s a steep $50, but I’ve had mine for months and it barely looks like I’ve put a dent in it. It provides a warm, glowy bronzed look to the skin, while still keeping subtle and natural. Unfortunately, this only comes in the one shade so it’s not going to work as well for darker skin tones. Come on Chanel, there’s no excuse for this!
Les Beiges Moisturizing Tint - A lightweight, moisturizing skin tint that gives the skin an even-toned, radiant glow. It’s very sheer, and somehow it totally balances out my skin tone. It’s a wonderful base for the rest of your beauty routine. It’s great under makeup and has an SPF of 30! I’m completely in love with this product. For summer, for year round, always.
Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Color - This is a super versatile loose powder that can double as a bronzer! The lady at the Chanel counter recommended I get the darker shade to use as a bronzer (it looked gorgeous!) but since I’m loyal to Soleil Tan de Chanel, I got the 30 shade to simply use as a regular powder. It’s subtle, illuminating, and sheer, and has added sun protection with SPF 15. Talk about killing two (+) birds with one stone. It’s $58, and I have a hard time paying that much for a powder. It’s fantastic, but I’m sure with some digging there is a cheaper alternative.
La Crème Main - To be totally honest, I was not crazy about this one at first. I fell in love with the scent at the counter, and impulse bought it in the middle of February. My hands needed that extra moisture, and I was sad that this didn’t give it to me. I stuck with Aesop’s hand cream until it was too thick for the time of year, with the weather getting warmer and my hands not being so dry. That's where Chanel's hand cream comes in! I quickly realized that this is not going to provide deep hydration to the skin, as it's an extremely light consistency. It provides perfect moisture for spring and summer, probably even fall weather, and it absorbs quickly into the skin.
No. 5 L’Eau Eau de Toilette - With notes of lemon, mandarin, orange, rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang, vetiver, cedar, and musk, No. 5 L’Eau has a very fresh, clean scent. It’s certainly a very spring/summer fragrance. It’s not for me, and personally I was disappointed at how much I thought I liked it before I bought it compared to now. It’s not a bad scent at all. It’s classy and elegant, but at the same time it smells soapy to me. I don't get the citrus-y appeal at all, the floral scents smell way more prominent to me. I know people love this fragrance, but so far it's not for me. Maybe it'll grow on me!
